Rayford  Steele

      The first character to be mentioned is Rayford, airline pilot. He is married to Irene Steele, whom he met in college while they were both doing ROTC. They married when he was a senior and she was a sophomore. They soon had their first child, Chloe, and eight years later, they had Rayford Jr. or Raymie. Irene had first started to go to church after a death in the family, but switched to New Hope Village Church, and soon got saved, along with Raymie. Rayford and Chloe resisted, and made fun of them. Rayford hated this so much that he often thought of having an affair with his flight attendant, the beautiful Hattie Durham. One night, he decided it would be his night, the night he finally made a move towards a relationship. That was the night everything changed.....
