She met Buck Williams that night, and quickly befriended him. She went home and found her family safe. She asked Buck to introduce her to Nicolae Carpathia, the rising leader. Buck did and the two hit it off, and had an affair. He made her his personal assistant, and they soon found out that Hattie was pregnant.
