Rayford Steele airline pilot is married to Irene Steele, whom he met in college while they were both doing ROTC. They married when he was a senior and she was a sophomore. They soon had their first child, Chloe, and eight years later, they had Rayford Jr. or Raymie. Irene had first started to go to church after a death in the family, but switched to New Hope Village Church, and soon got saved, along with Raymie. Rayford and Chloe resisted, and made fun of them.
